"THE PROPOSiTION"
Definition: A preposition is a word placed before a noun or a pronoun to show its
relations to some think elsein the sentence:as,
The book is on the table.
The watch is not with me.
A preposition may be placed before a noun ,a noun clause or a noun phrase .
The noun or pronoun before which a preposition is placed is known as its object.
It is said to be the objective case and is governed by the propostion.
In some cases the prepostion follows the object : as,
(a) This is the man the police are searching for.
(b) What are you laughing at ?
FORMS OF PERPOSITIONS:
1) Single Prepostions:
' By,at ,with,in,an ,to,for,of,off,form,through,uptill,over,under after. '
2)Double preposition :
They are used which a single preposition is not sufficient
to express the sense; as
(a) He was chosen from among the rest.
(b) He came from with in the house.
(c) PHRSE PREPOSITION:
Two or more words habitually used together
and ending with a simple preposition may be called phrase prepositions
or prepositional phrase:as
In the event of his father's death,he will be left poor ,he worked hard
for the sake of a prize.
Preposition of Adverb:
Some words are used some times are prepostion and some
as Adverb when these words govern a noun or a pronoun,these are
preposition,otherwise these are adverb:as
(a) Do not run about. (adverb)
Do not worry about the matter. ( prepostions)
(b) I have not seen him before.( adverb )
I saw him the day before.
